hardware lost in new WIN7 installation

Hi guys. Im new here so wanted to not only get help with my problem, but also say hi.

I recently installed windows 7 and initially everything worked fine. Then i noticed that one of my harddrives had disappeared. Its a 20gb barracuda. I checked in the device manager and also noticed that that I had a IDE controller and Unknown device problem.

I think the IDE controller is part of the High Definition Audio Controller set up so im currently downloading the realtek drivers to see if that allows windows 7 to recognise it.

I am howeever extremely lost as to how to get my hardrive back as everything I have done cant detect any hardware installed.

If there is anything I can put up on here that will help just let me know and ill do so, till then I hope there is someone out there that can rekindle my expectations of Windows 7!

    Thanks in advance

Have you installed all the latest drivers for your hardware?

    Hello,

The IDE controller relates to your Barracuda drive.

Get into the BIOS and see if it shows up here.

Other than that, you may have to open the case and make sure all connections are firmly placed in.

I thought I had all my drivers updated but even so it seems like windows 7 doesnt like you installing anything but what it finds using the windows updater.

REGHAKR - Its exactly that - i can see the drive in my Bios but i still get it to appear once Win7 has loaded. is there something i need to change in the BIOS settings?

I've spent three whole days trying all sorts and at one point thought i'd destroyed my pc beyond repair....luckily i got i back!

yep - thats what happened. At first everything seemed fine then i noticed something missing, which led me to seeing other things in the device manager that hadnt installed properly.

You may need to download and install the nVidia chipset drivers:

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.51 WHQL

(These are the 32 bit version. 64 bit drivers also exist.)

They may not be available from Windows Update, or from the Win7 install DVD.

(I had to do something like that for my notebook PC, which has an nVidia chipset.)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already got the 191.07 WHQL drivers installed. It hasnt seemed to have done anything in particular.

And now my audio has gone too! Perhaps I need to wait till Microsoft get all their drivers up and running because something is conflicting here in my machine and I cant quite figure it out.
