    Battery Displaying 0%

    Hi Guys!

Recently, my laptop has stopped working without the power cable. If the power cable is removed it turns off. The battery is properly connected and Windows 7 says that there is one installed. When this first happened my battery level was at 7% (Critical). Since then, every couple of days it dropped a percent, 6%,5%,4%,3%,2%,1% and is currently at 0%. This happens no matter how long I leave it on charging. All the details of the laptop are in System Specs below.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks,

Hi TheGoogler, And welcome to the forums, How old is the battery ? do you practice a charge/discharge cycle? Has the power board on the laptop died ?

The battery is about 2 years old, every week or so, and I have no idea how to check for Power Board failure, how do you check?

    Thanks,

Hi TheGoogler after 2 yrs I would expect the battery to still be able to hold about 60% of its charge capacity but individual cells can "die" therefore rendering the whole battery useless [unless you want to go down the route of replacing individual cells] , by the power board Imeant the power charging board for the battery ,they sometimes fail but i personnally would think its time to replace the battery

After about two years on each of my HP laptops, the battery has declined severely in performance or died. Check out eBay for a new battery, they are not expensive and are just as good. $30-50 depending on size, compared to $100 plus from HP/Compaq.

If you suspect of Win7, you can boot with ubuntu from liveCd and remove the power cable, if the problem persists, you should start look for a new battery..

Thanks to all of you! I'm gonna think whether it's worth replacing the battery, cause I kinda' want a new laptop anyways.

So, problem solved, I guess....... It's the battery.

    Thanks to all of you,

I have the same behaviour with a battery now about 3 months old. A few days ago it stopped charging and went slowly to 0%. But: the computer shows a charging state of 0% but still works. I just tried out to continue working an am now about 1 hour on 0% charging state without using a power supply.
My old battery shows the quite usual behaviour: starts with 100% and goes lower and than fails.
So I am not really sure, where the problem lies: In the Computer - not able to identify the correct state of the battery - or in the battery not able to provide correct information about charging state.
I would be curious if someone knew an explanation...
    Greetings...

It is best not to use power supply while the battery is full all the time.
If not using, remove the battery, unless it require to charge.
When using power supply, if the battery is full 100%, remove the battery to save in the long run.

Someone had using the laptop with battery insert and power supply connected, all the time.
After a couple of years, the battery cannot be charged properly, same as what OP mentioned.
    Now, the battery is dead.

But if not using battery, like using laptop as home PC, the battery require monthly usage and charge.
    After charged, remove the battery.

New Dell Laptops have option for desktop use which holds the battery at about 70% charge. This is the storage point for ion battery systems.
