    HELP! DVD Drive undetected after MagicISO

    Need your help, guys!

    I installed MagicISO on my HP Pavillion dv6812nr laptop which is running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. But it gave me a compatibility error everytime I try to run it.

    But after I uninstalled MagicISO my real DVD Drive vanished! I could not find it in my Device Manager anymore. I try to insert any kind of disc, it would not read it.

    I've tried running the Troubleshooter in Win7 but it didn't help.

    Try running system restore and see if that clears it up...

    i just tried your advice, unfortunately i can't find the date when i installed magicISO... kinda hesitant to do a full system restore (meaning going back from older dates). will it erase my files (music, docs, vids, etc.) if i do it on an older date?

    No... it will not effect your documents... and remember that you always have the option of undoing a system restore...

    A lot of times if you turn off PC and unplug drive, turn on the PC, then turn it back off and plug it back in. When you restart it it fixes it.

    You could also try deleting the upper and lower filters for the drive in the registry (make sure you backup your registry before altering it).
    I think the filters are in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    those were the first troubleshooting steps that i did, slithernet. but they didn't work. I didn't have lower or upper filters in my registry.

    Do a repair install...
