    External hard drive

Hi. I have an external hard drive for my window 7 computer. I have noticed that there are a lot of duplicate images (pictures) on it. Can I safely delete these pictures? If yes, how do I do this. If I am able to do it would it affect my pictures in the library or pictures in my photo gallery. I realize that I would still have to save a image in the external drive, but I just want to be sure that I can delete a duplicate image or images.

I have finally resolved a problem that I had with my external hard drive. That is why I am asking this question. I don't want another problem.

    Thank you.

Carole first up there are softwares that can single out duplicates one I use is CCleaner CCleaner - Free Download - Piriform see my pic it will not pick up the entire lot but as you can see I have a just a few after cleaning out duplicates and even triplicates of music just the other day. It is tedious but does get rid of them.

This is another program I have used in the past https://www.hardcoded.net/dupeguru/

Another search is this The Best Duplicate File Finder for Windows

Now to test this out just delete a few duplicates before rushing through a huge nimber that will show up any problems say pick a well known pic and delete it then try opening it again.

Another article that might be handy is this How to Find and Remove Duplicate Files on Windows

NB CCleaner if you haven't got it it is a software we all use - well almost all to keep the machine free of junk temp files cookies etc etc
