I am not disputing that other information. HWInfo is a powerful tool. But anything else can act defective and be reported defective if a power 'system' (more than just a PSU) outputs power that can boot a computer. And that power is still defective.

You listed ATX spec numbers. That is a start. Add in other factors. If 3.3 drops to or below 3.23, then power is defective. 5 volts below 4.87 - a defect. 12 volts below 11.83 - problems. The relationship between numbers also can report problems even if in spec. So again, never short the help of facts - especially numbers.

Noted at the start, numbers from a BSOD would have defined (isolated) a defect. Most information in HWInfo would be irrelevant to a problem related to what was reported from that original BSOD. Very first place to define a system's integrity - always start with what can make any good part act defective - a power 'system'.

Yes mate I know point taken but I have never said that the software was perfect and that I do check with a digital meter if I ever find things out of whack that don't seem to appear quite right.

The link in that little ditty I did up is written by a well known computer techie - Scott Meuller and I just go by what he states re the voltage limits and that is what I use as a guide and in that he quotes a voltage differential of +/- 5% of the required voltage and which I added that guide for same.

Anyway we are not here to debate the the usefulness of HW Info I just happen to consider it a very useful tool amongst others that I find are less helpful and I think we should keep on topic because this is not helping the OP.

But the point is numbers. Numbers were not recorded in the original BSOD. Numbers for voltages were not reported from HWInfo. In every case, nothing useful is contributed because numbers are ignored or withheld.

Ok well the question was asked re the PSU I was only adding a little something that could have cleared a few things up and apart from disassembling the device to inspect the internals which I hope the OP doesn't attempt having personal experience of how dangerous these devices are without knowing what one is doing then I shall leave this one to you others.

Zero risk exists when opening a computer. A meter does not cause damage. That is the point. Best information exists without disconnecting any wires or removing any part. Nothing dangerous exists when putting a hand inside a computer or using a meter. Nothing should be disconnected or removed until a defect is identified. That means numbers.
