By the way when I uninstalled again just now, removed from computer, re-booted the computer and then plugged the drive back in the message came up saying that the Sandisk drive had been installed successfully and was ready to use. Still didn't show up in My Computer but it did show in Widows Explorer. However when I checked in properties by right clicking it showed both used space and free space as 0 bytes!

Which USB port did you slot in.

    USB 2.0 or USB 3.0

This flash drive is USB 3.0

Maybe see whether it can use "Clean" to wipe and format to ntfs & primary partition.

Since it did able to recognize by the system.

Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

    It works for me.
    Do primary partition.
Do not include on setting it "Active"

I thought my USB Ports were USB 2.0. However no matter what they are I've been using this flash drive to store files for years before I started using it for my photos.
As for wipe and format etc. why would I do that if I was trying to access files on the drive? Wouldn't that wipe the drive completely?

You mean you still do have data.
Then don't do that Clean option.

My case is i don't care about the files inside, as i know i had backup most files, routine habit, somewhere.

Well obviously I'm hoping that I can still recover the files. I couldn't care less about the drive as it will be going in the bin.

I do have a few of that model flash drive.

    From 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB.
As this SanDisk Cruzer Ultra is USB 3.0

Using USB 2.0 should not have any problem.
But it did happen to one of these flash drive.
    Hence i use Clean option.

Clean option is it will destroy any partition inside the flash drive.

    next option;

If you have those Image & Clone software, Macrium Reflect &or Mini Tools Partition Wizard.
Run and check the flash drive.

The 0 byte is similar to CD/DVD disc, which will report as completed, as cannot save any files to it.
    If you ever seen before.

    Off-topic.

My mother has Alzheimer's and is now in a home. When clearing out her house I came upon thousands of old photographs which I have been scanning and transferring onto this flash drive the idea being to be able to show her a slide show of old photos to stimulate her memory.
My mother also with the same as yours.
I tried to avoid her, as she always seem to 'attack' me, no matter how i try to avoid.
Luckily i am not staying with her, as my sister is taking care of her.
Due to my state of depression before, i tried all means to avoid her, as my sibling said should not be.
In coming months, she will be staying at my flat, together with my sister and a maid.
I have to find ways to avoid her again.
That incident, was a very serious case as i had to stay & monitor in the hospital for a period of time.

Do take care of your mother, as i do understand.

If I start Macrium Reflect and plug in the drive it doesn't show up. If I plug the drive in first and then try to start acrium Reflect it won't start until I unplug the drive. Also tried Recuva and it doesn't show up there either.

If this situation happen, then do the partition things to check.

    Maybe another application may help.

    ISO buster

This application can read disc that are not able to see in normal windows explorer.

What i am trying to tell you is to find those application that able to read hidden folders.
I do not mean about windows explorer folder type.

The 0 byte is that it may have locked or encrypted in the drive.
Try to remember which USB port did you slot that flash drive, or something similar to.

I have seen many flash drive with such 0 byte, as locked, like i said, CD/DVD disc &or bootable.

I am only guessing, as this is the way i do my own troubleshooting.
Recall on what i had done before.
