Thinking of a Skylake desktop buld

Now have had the withdrawals for far too long (last build an Ivy Bridge) and am thinking of using the newest stuff.
Now I am only going to use the machine for basic usage and maybe some gaming later.
Have decide on a mis tower say a Coolermaster HAF or Corsair Carbide case an i7 CPU a reasonably priced GPU sound card and say a750W PSU.
My main quandary is the CPU should I get a fast non clock i7 or a clockable one? (I intend to clock the RAM anyway) as the price of the CPU is one component I see I could spend a lot of money on.

Ideas please??

Well, Tommy and I have the 6700K, no issues with it at all so far

But you could just get a 6600K and save at least $100

Intel Core i5-6600K 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I56600K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530 - Newegg.com

Or the 6600 is only $220

Intel Core i5-6600 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I56600 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530 - Newegg.com

The 6700 is only about $40 cheaper then the 6700K, your mileage may vary

Intel Core i7-6700 8M Skylake Quad-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 1151 65W BX80662I76700 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 530 - Newegg.com

Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Processor-Newegg.com

You`d have to look at availability and pricing on the Ausy site, or whoever you prefer John.

And are you looking at the new GPU`s , a 1060 or a 1070 ???

Please keep in mine that for many years I have only used Asus motherboards.

With todays new motherboard and the sound quality that they have you probable don't need a sound card unless you have a particular need.

With todays ram used on the newer motherboards, I see no need to over clock ram.
If the price difference between a non-over clock cpu and a over clock cpu isn't much I would choose the one that can be over clocked. You never know what you might want to do later on in life.

How much money are you willing to spend on your case/tower??

You could also wait for Kaby Lake and Zen which both are around the corner, and hopefully if Zen is as amazing as it's been said there might be a price development for Intel.

Thanks fellows yes Jack am all Asus myself and looking at either this Asus H170 Pro Gaming LGA1151 Motherboard H170PROGAMING | shopping express online or Asus H170-Pro LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard H170-PRO | shopping express online am inclined to the more expensive one though

Brian cannot choose between Intel Core i7-6700K 4.00GHZ LGA1151 CPU BX80662I76700K | shopping express online or Intel Core i7-6700 3.40GHz LGA1151 CPU BX80662I76700 | shopping express online

Boris don't know much about those ones are they a smaller architecture or just low power jobs?? I must have a look because I am also guessing it might be at premium prices too because the Skylake stuff has leveled out at some reasonable prices and having two i7 laptop am really impressed with the performance of them especially the one I am on right now (Asus P2520LA) because my Ivy Bridge with an i5 K is not really that quick even clocked up plus 2400MHz of RAM.

Now GPU's https://www.pccasegear.com/products/...-750-ti-oc-2gb I think will be good enough and is a good price there is this but because I really don't undertsand the specs I think the 750 is going ot be the go.

Sound card https://www.pccasegear.com/products/15774/asus-xonar-dg of which I have two in the other deskies but could easily run to the DGX model only $20 more. (Really good card if anyone is interested)

Ok Mike I am not sure what to do now - just don't want to be left with a machine like the old Ivy Bridge which technology got left behind in the dust as it wasn't long after I built it the parts suddenly become obsolete and very heard to get hold of.

x99 is not that old
Price wise the combo I posted is about the same as a skylake combo
Only difference is no restrictions or hoops to jump through installing win-7
Uses the same ddr4 ram except quad channel instead of dual

John, unfortunately that is going to be the case no matter which Chipset you use. Remember the Z77 was only released something like 3 years ago. It's going to be pretty much the same no matter which one you use. JMO.

Windows 7 on skylake CPU
Ive read that Lga1151 usb 2.0 port will not work on windows 7 during installation. So it means it will only work on usb3.0 during installing OS. Ive also read that you can only install it using dvd drive. My question is that after installing win7 using dvd drive. Will the usb 2.0 work after?
