Problem with Seagate FreeAgent desktop 500

This external drive worked fine in XP and Vista. On my new HP touchsmart Windows 7 machine not working . I downloaded the new Windows 7 software and installed it. Now when I first plug in the drive it is recognised in my computer and the Seagate Drive Manager Software. I do the backup appears to be backing up [Dont know im afraid to try a restore]. After a shut down or a restart the drive is not in My Computer or in the Seagate Drive Manager, it is not recognised untill I unplug the power and the USB than replug it in. Is anyone else having any problems with their Seagate USB Drives? Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on? I my need to purchase a new drive, do the present day Seagate drives work in 7? mine is about 2yrs old and 32 bit. I reformated to 64bit and didnt help and tried all the compatability modes. Im at a loss .

Any help Appreciated
Bert
