IDE Not Recognised by Windows

I've just got a new PC and want to transfer data from my old IDE to my new SATA but when I plug in the IDE, I can see it in BIOS but not in Windows. I've tried opening Disk Management but it's not listed there. I've also tried running diskpart but it doesn't appear there either. Any ideas what to do please? Thanks!

My secondary IDE drive doesn't appear but its random. Same thing, BIOS sees it fine but Windows doesn't know about it. I also hear it spin up randomly once in awhile. Never had this issue with XP.

Can you interface your IDE drive with a USB adapter and attempt to access the data by that method? If there are any issues with drive firmware and Windows 7 then they ought to be overcome using this method of connection...

I always keep one of these devices handy for just such issues...

That's a good idea Qdos. Thanks from me. I will attempt to use one of these to get some data from an old HD too. They have parallel to USB adapters also (i just found out)

I HATE this old hardware and will be glad when it's all gone...if it ever is.

I hope all the USB adapters I have ordered will work. I have ordered a parallel, and serial to USB, and now I think I will get a IDE too.

The cable worked great thanks. I was hoping to get windows to recognise the drive but all I wanted was the data off the drive and to not have to spend hours doing it so this worked fine. Thanks guys .
