Permantly Assign External Hardrive Letters For Laptop

I have 2 external hard drives that I attach to my laptop. One is back up the other is media. My music software (Zune) is pointed at F but it's a crapshoot as to what letters the hardrives are given. I understand it is possible to permanently assign harddrives a letter but can't find how it's done.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dean

    Hi dean and welcome

Do the drive stay permanently attached? Dou you dual boot?

I am curious as to why they change.

Wow, quick response. I regularly remove and reattach the hard drives. One via a direct eSATA plug on the laptop (media drive) and one via a Belkin 7 port USB hub (back up).

I run only Windows 7. If I do dual boot then it is not on purpose.

    Thanks,
