    Unknown Device

I have recently installed Windows 7 and everything is working fine except one of my devices. My LG External Super Multi-DVD Rewriter is being recognized by my machine as an unknown device. I get Error Code 43 and when I try updating the driver, nothing changes. Please help! Thanks.

    Hi and welcome BC

You wouldn't by any chance be running a mac, would you? that error code is almost exclusively from there. Anyway. IN device manager go to hte unknown device. right click>properties>details>use pull down>find hardware IDs. copy that string into google and the string should point to the MFR.

Good luck and let us know if you need help with that

I am running a dell inspiron 6000, not a mac. The hardware ids string reads "usb/unknown."

The "Unknown Device Identifier" worked, but I can't seem to locate the driver online. Any other ideas?

    Hi

Sorry usually hardware strings are more enumerated. I went looking for a driver for it but the best I ould come up with is the us support site. here>>>>LG Product Support The error 43 simply means windows stoppedthe device because it reported a problem

    Sorry I couldnt help

The Unknown Device Identifier program gave me the following info:
    Vendor: LG (HLDS)
    PnplD:VID_152E&PID_2507
    Device: USB Device

I'm sorry to bother you all with this, but I'm what you call "computer illiterate"

    Thanks again
