Windows 7: Keyboard & Mouse

15 Dec 2009   #11

Windows 7

Doing an install on a new build all went very well, until. I have a programable keyboard (PS2) I got on a CompUSA promotion deal 5 or 6 years back and decided to give it a try. W7 accepted the kb however after I installed the drivers and rebooted it locked up on the welcome screen. No keyboard input no mouse movement. Tried safe mode same result then tried W7 auto repair with same result. Because it was early on and had few applications loaded I reinstalled W7, and did NOT reinstall the KB driver...

All is well now.

Moral of the story is be very careful about older programable keyboards.

win 7 X64 Ultimate SP1
Asus -- AMI Bios

This will not make sense I am sure. I am just relating a similar problem I had. Mouse and Keyboard are USB. Intermittently they would not work on a bootup. Some times it would take numerous boots to get them. Trouble shot all settings in bios and hardware (cords, plugs, ports, etc.) Discovered that when they failed on a boot if I rebooted entered the bios did an F10 and saved (no changes) the problem would go away. LOL (more than likely a coincidence) Any way my rig hasn't done it for a long time now.
