"Safely Remove HDW" disappeared in Windows 7!?!?!

FYI to all, here's a site to re-enable this on Windows 7 (32 & 64 alike I was a little miffed when they got rid of that nice precaution.

I've been testing this and trying out different ways to attempt to (for lack of a better word) corrupt the software as to gauge it's prowess.

In the end, I discovered that, although it's 3rd-party, it's very reliable.

Here's the site: (the product is called "USB Safely Remove.)

Safely Remove Hardware in one click! USB, SATA, Firewire. Keyboard shortcuts for stopping, clear device names, remove a device from the icon

    Enjoy,

I noticed it was gone, but I haven't had any problems with any of my USB attached devices, including "memory keys". I have 5 USB attached optical drives (for audio CD production and I can burn 5 discs at a time) and the safely remove hardware does not seem to be needed in Win 7 with these drives. In Vista, if I didn't use the Safely Remove Hardware I would run into problems the next time I powered on the drives.

I've got W7 x64, and if I click the "show hidden icons" button in the bottom right of the screen, I have a "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" option. I haven't installed any 3rd party tools either.

Same here, and it also doesn't show up there unless something is connected that would need it.

    Thanks for that.
One of my DAP's is set to MSC (mass storage class)USB mode and I was worried about something happening if I just unplugged it. I'm less than a week into Win 7 and that was something I hadn't yet discovered.

This does of course beg the question, what on Earth was the Op trying to plug?
