    Win7 - Leonovo X200 - Keyboard suddenly stopp

    heya,

I have Windows 7 installed on my Lenovo X200 tablet pc.

Recently, when I restarted, I noticed that the keyboard didn't work. I did a quick google, and apparently some other people had noticed something similar, where the keyboard suddently stopped working. The consesnsus seemed to be to remove the keyboard device in Device Manager, and let Windows pick it up again.

Anyhow, I first tried plugging in a USB keyboard. This seemed to trigger the driver install, however, the USB keyboard also didn't work. In Device Manager, the message given was:

    Code:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
I also then tried removing the "Thinkpad Keyboard and Mouse" device, and rebooting. On reboot, the laptop keyboard nor mouse worked, and in Device Manager, the newly installed devie for that, said it was unable to start.

I suppose I can reinstall Windows, but any other options (no sys restore points).

(Also, it's probably not hardware, because the keyboard works fine in the BIOS, as well as my Linux intall.

    Cheers,
    Victor

Yes,,, only install drivers from Lenovo's site directly for your hardware.
turn off MS Driver updates for Windows Updates. I have seen them break things often.
All other updates are fine and should be run,, only avoid driver updates.

If you can get a USB mouse to work,, you might go through Programs and Features and unisntall any related keyboard and mouse drives, then from Device Manager. Get fresh downloaded drivers and Chipset drivers from Lenovo's site and isntall them.

If that doesn't work, I would say, cut your loses and backup data, nuke and reload. And only install drivers from Lenovo's (or any other manufacturer for that matter, Avoid All Windows Update Driver Updates for all systems, it's the only real huge gripe I have with MS right now) website in the future.
