Last evening, my neighborhood lost power for a while. Now my monitor does not stay on. I can turn the monitor off and then back on and it will stay on for about 1 second and then go blank. It is not powering down, just going blank. The computer is an HP Pavilion. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do?

Do you use a surge protector or an UPS? If not, when you are up and running you need one. If you want to prevent future problems you will invest in a good one.
If you do, and a power outage was able to damage your monitor, you need a better one. The next time it could be your computer that dies. Hope you understand I am just trying to help, not preach. Have a Merry Christmas.
You might try plugging the monitor directly into wall socket just to see if it works that way. Atleast you'll know the surge protector is not the problem.

It definitely sounds to me like a monitor problem. Either test another monitor on your system or test your monitor on another system (maybe a laptop with vga/dvi/hdmi out?)
