Can I DISABLE Fingerprint option at Win 7 login?

I have an HP dv4-1430us laptop which does NOT have a fingerprint scanner. It came with Vista. With Vista, whenever the computer was started up it immediately went to my login screen and was prompting me for my password. All I had to do to login was start typing. Since upgrading to Win 7 (home premium 64 bit), whenever I start the computer I have a choice of login options. Instead of just typing my password, I must first click on either my login name or on the 'DigitalPersona' fingerprint logo. It's not like this is a major issue, clicking only takes a few seconds, but since I don't even have a fingerprint scanner....

Can anyone tell me how to disable the fingerpring login option? I tried searching, but could only find threads offering help to get it working, not removed. DigitalPersona does show up on my 'remove program' list, but I wasn't sure if that would just confuse Win 7 upon startup and lock up the computer.

    TIA

If you open the control panel, and go to "hardware and sound" then look for "biometric devices" do you see it?

There isn't anything labeled biometric devices, if I search in control panel for 'biometric' all that comes up is the device manager, but there aren't any devices listed that look like they might be my non-existant fingerprint scanner

I'm not computer illiterate, most of my family actually calls me for help. I'm soooo tempted to just run the remove program on DigitalPersona, but I was hoping someone here could point me to the right place that I can just click it away.

If you open device manager, do you see a heading for the biometric device? If you do, just right-click and disable it.

It's not there, there's nothing to disable, I DON'T HAVE a biometric device.

I'm 99% sure the problem is with Win 7, I just don't know how to adjust the settings for it to not look for fingerprints at login.

I'm going to reboot and go into Bios to see if there's anything I can do there before I just uninstall DigitalPersona.

ok, one last place. click start, type in gpedit.msc navigate to computer configuration, then administrative templates, then windows components, go to biometrics and change the key "allow the use of biometrics" to disabled.

after doing a search on google, looks like "digitalpersona" is hp's biometrics driver suite, shouldn't hurt to un-install it.

It came with vista home premium 32 bit, I have upgraded, changed to window 7 ultimate 64 bit including the fingerprint reader everything is functional, Go to HP site look for downloads, they have been very good abut updating and supporting Windows 7. I did not have web cam after update checked and down loaded program to view web cam and all was there. List your specs and check HP site for driver

Thanks for trying to help, but he doesnt have a driver issue, windows thinks a biometric device is present in a system that doesn't have one.

I just checked. His tablet is available with a finger print reader. He does not have one, it needs to be disabled in the bios. He is not using a correct set of drivers for his set up. Have a great day.

    BIOS was a bust.

I went into MSCONFIG. Under the services tab I disabled(unchecked) 'biometric authentication services', and under the startup tab I disabled digitalpersona.

After rebooting, the fingerprint option is still there, and I still have to click on my name to login, but now underneath the fingerprint icon there isn't any text. Before it was saying 'device not detected'.

gpedit.msc doesn't exist on my computer, but I did find a the admin tools in control panel, they're the same as msconfig. While there this time I also disaled the 'windows biometrics'.

    Wish me luck....
