| Windows 7: Can I DISABLE Fingerprint option at Win 7 login? |

Can I DISABLE Fingerprint option at Win 7 login? I have an HP dv4-1430us laptop which does NOT have a fingerprint scanner. It came with Vista. With Vista, whenever the computer was started up it immediately went to my login screen and was prompting me for my password. All I had to do to login was start typing. Since upgrading to Win 7 (home premium 64 bit), whenever I start the computer I have a choice of login options. Instead of just typing my password, I must first click on either my login name or on the 'DigitalPersona' fingerprint logo. It's not like this is a major issue, clicking only takes a few seconds, but since I don't even have a fingerprint scanner....
Can anyone tell me how to disable the fingerpring login option? I tried searching, but could only find threads offering help to get it working, not removed. DigitalPersona does show up on my 'remove program' list, but I wasn't sure if that would just confuse Win 7 upon startup and lock up the computer.

If you open the control panel, and go to "hardware and sound" then look for "biometric devices" do you see it? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Black_Box (homebuilt) OS windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Phenom II 965 Quad Core 3.4Ghz Motherboard Asus M4A79T Deluxe Memory Mushkin Blackline 8GB (4x2gb) Graphics Card XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WPF-main Dell E248WFP-secondary Screen Resolution 1920x1200-main 1920x1200-secondary Keyboard Logitech MX 5500 wireless keyboard Mouse Razor Copperhead PSU XFX 850w Black Edition (Modular) Case Mountian Mods H2go Cooling CoolITSystems ECO A.L.C. There isn't anything labeled biometric devices, if I search in control panel for 'biometric' all that comes up is the device manager, but there aren't any devices listed that look like they might be my non-existant fingerprint scanner
I'm not computer illiterate, most of my family actually calls me for help. I'm soooo tempted to just run the remove program on DigitalPersona, but I was hoping someone here could point me to the right place that I can just click it away. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP dv4-1430us OS Win 7 (HP64) CPU 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo Memory 4GB |

If you open device manager, do you see a heading for the biometric device? If you do, just right-click and disable it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Black_Box (homebuilt) OS windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Phenom II 965 Quad Core 3.4Ghz Motherboard Asus M4A79T Deluxe Memory Mushkin Blackline 8GB (4x2gb) Graphics Card XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WPF-main Dell E248WFP-secondary Screen Resolution 1920x1200-main 1920x1200-secondary Keyboard Logitech MX 5500 wireless keyboard Mouse Razor Copperhead PSU XFX 850w Black Edition (Modular) Case Mountian Mods H2go Cooling CoolITSystems ECO A.L.C. It's not there, there's nothing to disable, I DON'T HAVE a biometric device.
I'm 99% sure the problem is with Win 7, I just don't know how to adjust the settings for it to not look for fingerprints at login.
I'm going to reboot and go into Bios to see if there's anything I can do there before I just uninstall DigitalPersona. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP dv4-1430us OS Win 7 (HP64) CPU 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo Memory 4GB |

ok, one last place. click start, type in gpedit.msc navigate to computer configuration, then administrative templates, then windows components, go to biometrics and change the key "allow the use of biometrics" to disabled.
after doing a search on google, looks like "digitalpersona" is hp's biometrics driver suite, shouldn't hurt to un-install it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Black_Box (homebuilt) OS windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Phenom II 965 Quad Core 3.4Ghz Motherboard Asus M4A79T Deluxe Memory Mushkin Blackline 8GB (4x2gb) Graphics Card XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WPF-main Dell E248WFP-secondary Screen Resolution 1920x1200-main 1920x1200-secondary Keyboard Logitech MX 5500 wireless keyboard Mouse Razor Copperhead PSU XFX 850w Black Edition (Modular) Case Mountian Mods H2go Cooling CoolITSystems ECO A.L.C. I have HP PAVILIONtx21110us tablet it has 3 gigs of memory and a finger print reader. It came with vista home premium 32 bit, I have upgraded, changed to window 7 ultimate 64 bit including the fingerprint reader everything is functional, Go to HP site look for downloads, they have been very good abut updating and supporting Windows 7. I did not have web cam after update checked and down loaded program to view web cam and all was there. List your specs and check HP site for driver

I just checked. His tablet is available with a finger print reader. He does not have one, it needs to be disabled in the bios. He is not using a correct set of drivers for his set up. Have a great day. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me with help from a lot of news group friends OS windows 7 ultimate final Office 2007,27 Quad IMAC vm 7 64 bit CPU Dual Opteron 275 x 2 Motherboard Tyan Thunder 2885 Highpoint 1820 raidcard Memory 4 gigs reg ecc corsair Graphics Card SaphireATI 3850 agp Sound Card AMD-8111 AC'97 Audio Controller Driver Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 2333,Samsung 32 inch flat screen Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard logitech wireless Mouse wireless logitech track ball PSU 2 power supplies about 1750 total original 750 second 1000 Case 2 theramaltake married together Cooling air Hard Drives 5 raptor 37 gig in raid 5 off Highpoint 1820 card, 3 more for photos etc plus 300 gig 2 for storage 12 total Internet Speed 1000 down 250 up DSL, wireless net 3500 down 2000 up Other Info work in progress now running windows 7,Office 2007 using kvm switch sharing key board, trackball with xp 32 machine. xp machine is 2253 and 206 BW, Sat TV on 206 . add quad core 27 inch IMAC. w fusion 3 win 7 ultimate 64 as guest |

BIOS was a bust.
I went into MSCONFIG. Under the services tab I disabled(unchecked) 'biometric authentication services', and under the startup tab I disabled digitalpersona.
After rebooting, the fingerprint option is still there, and I still have to click on my name to login, but now underneath the fingerprint icon there isn't any text. Before it was saying 'device not detected'.
gpedit.msc doesn't exist on my computer, but I did find a the admin tools in control panel, they're the same as msconfig. While there this time I also disaled the 'windows biometrics'.
Wish me luck.... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP dv4-1430us OS Win 7 (HP64) CPU 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo Memory 4GB Can I DISABLE Fingerprint option at Win 7 login? problems? All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:05 PM. | |
