I have the same problem with my HP Pavillion dv6812nr (dv6700 series). I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, and honestly, it has been chaotic. Now, not only is my DVD drive missing but my sound has disappeared as well. I've all updates and cleared upper/lower filters.

I've got the desktop fixed with a IDE refresh and a reformat to the computer, it seems to be working now. I still need to get the laptop fixed, and i did a fresh reformat (via usb stick.) But it seems more likely that my drive has gone out. Does anyone know if theres been a history of problems with the drives when burning ISO's using the built in disk image tool?

    Hi Zero,

When you did the fresh reformat, did it fix the dvd drive issue or it still wasn't recognized? I plan to bring my laptop back to HP and have them reinstall their OEM OS (Win Vista Home Prem) and maybe they can fix all of my other issues with the laptop.

It didnt fix it, but playing with the IDE cables and such i managed to fix it even if it had been recognized previously despite the cabels not being toyed with. All i know is its working on the desktop, which is not HP but a home build. I do hope you get yours fixed.
