Dvd-Rom Drive not recognized, not upperclass fix.

Alright, i have got my laptop, HP Pavilion Dv6700, upgraded to Windows 7 Professional x64, and i ran it previously on both beta, and RC verisions of Win7 without any difficulties. But now, my Dvd-rom is not being recognized by my computer, once Windows boot's up. As its a laptop, while in bios, the Dvd-rom is given power, can open close, but when Win7 starts, it wont even open any longer and is not viewed in the computer screen. Also under the drivers section, it shows ATA Channel 0, ATA Channel 0, ATA channel 1, ATA channel 1. All of which claim to be the most up to date. One of the key problems is i cannot even boot to dvd, to try to reinstal Win7, it starts to read the disc, then skips immediatly to booting from my HD, even with boot to dvd set to priority.

Now what i've done, ive tried the Upper/Lower class filter fix, gone into the Registry, and looked for those, and i do not have those filters on there, i have also done the manual run command for the same problem "Bcdedit /set Ddisable_integrity_checks" and rebooted my laptop, without any change. I have also uninstalled each of the ATA Channel drivers, and rebooted my laptop, still, no change.

Now i suspected that it was my laptop Dvd-rom drive going out, but i just recently discovered my desktop is having the same exact problem! So i jumped onto some virus scanning programs, and found my systems clean, so far, but i know that doesent mean much. I did the same steps above for the desktop, and the Dvd-rom drive remains unrecognized, though as it has its own power source, can open and close. I -know- the desktop's drive is not bad, as i recently installed it last week, when the original drive was bad, so i could reinstall Win7 RC x32 on my desktop.

At this point i dont know what more to do, besides possibly reinstalling Win7 with a flash drive on my laptop, to see if it can see my Dvd-rom again, because when i first installed Win7 Professional, it viewed my Dvd-rom fine. Anyone with any tips, please get back to me!

If the drive is not recognized at boot up, the problem is in the BIOS (or the drive). Upper/lower filters, etc have no affect as they only come into play AFTER Windows loads.

Check the BIOS and see if the drive is recognized in the BIOS. If not, clear the CMOS (BIOS) and see if that helps. I haven't worked on an HP laptop so I'm not sure of the procedure - removing the backup battery for about 10 minutes will probably do it. The other possibility is to reseat the data cable - both at the drive and at the motherboard.

You need to download and install the latest intel matrix storage manager software/driver because AHCI is enabled in your bios, and what happens during installation of W7 is W7 installs the Intel driver, but for correct functionality you need to install the intel matrix storage manager after installation is complete if you dont it will cause the problem you are having with your DVD DRIVE.

You will find it at the intel site - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
Select chipsets - chipset software - intel(R) matrix storage manager - Select Operating System - select Windows 7 (64bit OR 32 bit) - select drivers - select intel(R) matrix storage manager 8.9.0.1023 - download and install.
(make sure you don't download the floppy configuration utility by mistake) - it will show up if you select utilities.

First, Fireberd, in both systems BIO's recognizes the drives, but in the laptop it doesent give me enough time to boot from cd before going to booting from the HD.

Whest, i tried to go into that previously, and it said "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will now exit." Im not using a Intel chipset, im using AMD?

Thats strange I checked your laptop and it had intel matrix i thought - so you have amd and what chipset is it - nforce by any chance or what? You have 2 different names for the one laptop dv6700 than dv700 and the dv 6700 is intel, but i'll now check the dv700 to see what chipset if has - DAMN search wont show it on the hp site can you send me a link or can you find the name of the chipset for your laptop?

You need to be more specific as the search finds 100's instead of several to choose from.

Adrian, my problem is not that it halts or anything of that matter. I currently run Windows 7 Professional x64 bit, on my laptop. My problem is my Dvd-rom is completely gone while Windows is running. The bios recognizes it, but doesent give time to boot from it to try to reinstal windows. I am sure its not a problem distinctly with my drive, because my Desktop has now had the same problem. In addition to this, i have checked the standard bug for Windows 7 and dvd-rom's and my Registry is fine, and the manual CMD code did nothing to resolve the problem.

This solution below seems to be the best I can find - others are dubious but worth trying in the order they are listed.
Guys, I have found a solution for problems concerning about the change OS from Windows Vista to Windows 7. If you have problems like Video Drivers, just do this step:
1.) Go to Control Panel
2.) Turn on Automatic Updates
3.) Download all updates.
4.) Install updates and VOALA! All are updated and drivers ate installed.

Try the latest nforce drivers for the Nvidia nForce 630M chipset might work - your product is supported - check supported products to see - its the last one in geforce 7 series - nforce630m

Also you could try this hot fix for usb ports for the chipset - do so at your own risk - set up restore point - this is only a possible fix, but may effect the dvd drive - and check in device manager firstly for NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset.
