Constant DPCs When Trying to Copy/Sync to External HDD

I am running an HP a6720f and trying to sync my photos to an external hard drive. I have tried to use both SyncBack and simply copying folders. In each instance, the process seems to start fine and initially copies well, but within a short time, it slows to a near halt. In all cases, my DPCs are jumping up from being insignificant (varying from 0-5%) to being around 35%, with hardware interrupts around 16%.

I am not running any other programs when this happens. All I want to do is backup my pictures.

The drive is a 500gb SimpleDrive. When I first boot the computer, I have no trouble accessing the drive or any files on the drive.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you very much! There is a major improvement for copying files. I didn't think there was a problem with the drive (nor did my diagnostics). This confirms it. And more importantly, can backup my pictures.
