DVD Drive Won't Read/Play Legit DVD's Hi, I've got a built computer running on a 32bit Windows 7 AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor. I've recently installed the 7600 Build and when it tried reading a Legit bought dvd, it tells me to insert a CD/DVD into the drive. This probelm only occurs with legit dvd's and not data or burnt.
I've searched forums but came up trumps so if anyone has any ideas or solutions please post!
Much appreciated xD | My System Specs |

Hello,
I must confess I do not understand what a Legit DVD is. How does it differ from any other DVD?

Update your drives firmware, it appears not to be reading the 'book type' of the disks inserted...
You can read more on the subject at CD Freaks, just Google for a lead if necessary... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Lenovo USB laser "Thinkpad" Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Crucial M4 SSD, archives on twin Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX, 2TB, 7200rpm HDD's, Samsung Ritemaster CD/DVD Burner... Okay sorry, What i meant by legit dvd is a already burnt movie dvd purchased from stores by manufacturers. Thus it differs from normal data dvd's burnt from the pc. Does that answer your question :S? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s) Memory 4GB DDR3 Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer 19" Screen Resolution 1440x900 Case Antec Hard Drives Samsung 320GB Sata Disk

Hey I've tried updating my driver software through Device manager and for both drives it states that 'it has the best software installed'. Any other pointers? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s) Memory 4GB DDR3 Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer 19" Screen Resolution 1440x900 Case Antec Hard Drives Samsung 320GB Sata Disk

Go online and search for your CD drive. Go to the manufacturer's site, and download the latest drivers there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU Intel i7 2600K OC'd @ 4620 MHz Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V Pro Memory 16GB GSkill Sniper 2133 Mhz (4x4GB) Graphics Card EVGA GeForce GTX 480 SuperClocked+ Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 2x Acer S273HLbmii 27" Screen Resolution 2 x 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK320 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK320 (wireless) PSU Corsair HW Series 750w (modular) Case Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition Cooling CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler, 3x 230mm + 1x 140mm case fans Hard Drives 64GB Crucial M4 SSD

Do any CD/DVD/BluRay drives currently on the market use drivers other than the standard Windows ones? All of the drives I've seen since Windows 95 used the default Microsoft drivers.
For the original poster: is your drive set to the correct region? I've never experienced an issue of that sort, and I'd hope that having the wrong region setting would give a more informative error message, but it's all that I can think of at the moment. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number homegrown OS Windows 7 Pro X64 SP1 CPU Intel Core I7-3930k Motherboard Asus P9X79 Pro Memory 16 GB Gskill DDR3-2133 Graphics Card eVGA GTX680 Sound Card Creative X-Fi Titanium Monitor(s) Displays As PA246Q Screen Resolution 1920 X 1200 Keyboard cheap Logitech USB Mouse Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (old optical) USB PSU PCP&C Silencer 750 Crossfire Case Silverstone FT02 Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives Corsair Force GT, 120 GB

People are confusing firmware and drivers.
Firmware is like a sort of BIOS for the device, whereas the drivers are the generic drivers Windows loads to integrate the hardware into the operating system so that it'll work as per it's designated specifications.
The OP should investigate updating his firmware for the optical drive. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Lenovo USB laser "Thinkpad" Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Crucial M4 SSD, archives on twin Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX, 2TB, 7200rpm HDD's, Samsung Ritemaster CD/DVD Burner... Hi, Thankyou for all your responses, I went to the site and i did download the lasted firmware (thanks Jonathon) and i installed it. I have two dvd drives (Pioneer DVR-112D) and after installing the firmware and attempting to play DVDs, only one drive worked. This was a region issue (thanks bobkn); but i'm not sure if that was the original issue as i only focused on my D drive.
The D drive still does not load the cd, what else can i do? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 3400 Mhz, 4 Core(s) Memory 4GB DDR3 Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer 19" Screen Resolution 1440x900 Case Antec Hard Drives Samsung 320GB Sata Disk
