Would I feel much difference with this upgrade?

Hello every1,

This is my current system setup>>
Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L v1
Core 2 Duo E7300, 2666 MHz
2x2gb Micron DDR2 800MHz
ASUS EN8600GT MAGIC 512MB

I will buy a new i7 based system with HD5970 in a year from now but till then I need to do an upgrade to my current system.. I use my pc mainly for gaming and watching movies.

I have enough budget right now to upgrade ONLY my CPU and GPU to>>
Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB Cache
Gigabyte ATI HD 5770 1GB DDR5

I usually play at 1440x900 or lesser WS resolution if the game is too heavy..

Now with that upgrade, would I feel much difference from my current setup or not? I need a detailed answer please not just yes or no..

define much. not 50%. what would you like to use as benchmark graphics, number crunching. I have no intention of saying yes or no, just need to know what you are looking ofr

What I wanna know is how much better would the new setup perform on games at 1440x900 resolution than my current setup.. I usually play FPS, action and adventure RPG games..

Some people who are obsessed with gaming performance would call any improvement "much", particularly if price is not a concern.

Generally, I'd say people going from a 7300 to a 9400 would be disappointed in the overall PC performance improvement, but you may be one of those people who consider anything measurable to be "much"--all the more so if gaming is a major issue for you.

If it were me--I wouldn't do it. I'd bank the money and load up when it comes time to go to an i7 or whatever is cutting edge on the day you upgrade.

I understand what you're saying but my problem is that right now I can only upgrade my CPU and GPU according to what my MB could handle and those couple are the best I can get for it..

I only need an upgrade that would last a year, after that I will buy a whole new system for at least 2-3k$..

Sounds to me like you have a well known and incurable disease--"upgrade-itis". You have money to spend, you are itching to do it, and can't stand not upgrading.

Go for it. Reasons be damned. You won't be happy if you don't upgrade. Scratch your itch.

I do have upgrading fever.

I bought my 1st PC in 2002 for about 733$, spent on it twice it's price with upgrades till the late 2008 when I bought my current system for about 366$ and now I have about 550$ that I want to use for upgrading it...

And in exactly a year and 2 months I will buy a new system for at least 2000-3000$.... Few months after that my upgrading fever will kick in yet again.....
