    HP dv2000 refuses everything!

I have an HP dv2000, an i have Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I was using it one day, and shut it down for a bit, came back to use it, and it does literally nothing. it turns on, but nothing appears on the screen, and it never responds to anything. the hard drive is crashed, but i ordered a new one, put it in, and it was the same deal. the disks in the drive will spin up, act like they are loading, and then stop. any advice?

Try not to start two threads on the exact same problem. https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...-anything.html

If the laptop was still under warranty you could take it into an HP dealer/service center to have them repair the problem. You are likely looking at either a connector/harness problem or board fault being realized. Are you seeing anything on the display or does that stay dark?

The description there soiunds like a quick power up and immediate power loss as if the board had a bad cap on it. Everything will simply shut off in a few seconds after a brief flash of drive lights and then silence.

It sounds like the screen or video card has gone out.
Do you have another screen like a vga monitor you can hook up to it?

A video card or onboard graphics chip can be toast and you would still hear the main drive going through the boot process. Besides the board itself seeing a problem one thing that can stall a normal startup would be the lithium battery on the board itself. Being this is an older laptop a weak battery won't be able to maintain the cmos information and will stall everything when powering up.
