Try this way. You have to uninstall the driver that is there already, French version. Make sure that it is totally removed.
    Use ccleaner.

Type device and printers in search. When you see your printer, right click and then uninstall. Then try to install again using the english version. Shut off your printer, until directed to turn it on, while installing

ok so i removed everything and tried to reinstall. It still took me to the option where it asked me to restart over and over again. I decided to install the very first french version that worked and the install completed. but now the printer does not print. It didnt even print out a test page like it did the first time.
when i select print it works. a little pop up opens for like 1 second and goes away i cant tell what it is saying but when i go and look at my printer it just shows "0 document pending"

Go to device and printers make sure that it is installed.

If the printer is connected properly to the computer and it is compatible and has the correct driver is should work. Make sure it shows up on devices and printers. Go to help and support and type printer and then, "why can't I print" and finally, my printer doesn't print. That will troubleshoot the problem.

If it printed a test page before and does not now, the driver is not installed properly.

Try to read and translate the French notice that you receive. Try installing the driver again. Go to the website and be sure that you selected the correct one from the choice of two that you were given.

Did the printer work with an earlier OS? If not the problem could be the printer. If it did print and we are sure that it is compatilbe with 7 (the original notice said that it was not), the correct driver should get it to work.

I am going send you links from the web site, that I think that you should use based upon the model of the printer.

If after that is completed and you believe that you would prefer to go back to the way it was, when you printed the test page, you can just use system restore and pick a restore point that will return you to that condition. I do not see any benefit to that, however.

Here is a link to some general things that you can check. Do the ones that you are comfortable with. These instructions are not specifically for Win 7. Just follow the general insructions, like being sure it is properly conncected.

Trust me, I truly want to help you get this repaired. I know how difficult is must be for you with school starting, Monday.

    Ill be back.

When you are asked to reinstall over and over, that means that it is not installing properly.

Make sure all remnants of the old driver are gone. After you unistall make sure it is no logner listed in devices and printers.

Then choose the correct one 32 or 64 bit from this page. Turn your printer off and disconnect it from the computer. Then install the driver. Turn on the printer when told. Make sure that it now shows in devices and printers. If it does it should print.

Select your operating system HP Photosmart C4640 All-in-One Printer - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

When you get to this page make sure you make the correct choice. Click on the link for description of what each does and if it should be installed.
