    CD Drives boot problems (win7/xp dual boot)

    Hello,

    I'm searched around for possible clues or solutions for what's going on with my system. No luck.

    I have a win7 and xp dual boot. They had been working fine, until one day I couldn't get on XP anymore. It'd just freeze while loading, whether it is safe mode, normal, you name it.
    I had to do a system restore on the Win7, because of a video card problem.. now I can't get on it either. It works 1 out of 50 times. After doing more and more restores and trying to go in safe mode etc etc..

    All that aside, for some reason now I can't seem to boot anything out of my CD Drives. I switch up the order, have switched them, tried only one, switched IDE cables, they work on windows.. they just don't seem to boot anything. I've tried several self boots dics now. Nothing.

    Any idea on how this issue? I certainly appreciate it.
    Thank you.

    Welcome!

    Have you tried a Startup Repair?

    And are you sure the discs you are trying are bootable.
    Also dont forget the startup repair might need to run upto three times to complete

    I did complete the startup repair. I am able to get back on Win7. However, I still can't seem to boot anything from any of my dvd-roms. The discs I've been using are all working properly, and are bootable and to double check I've tested them on my laptop.

    There is something different now however. Right now I have only my DVD-Rom (Sony DDU 1615). It was working just fine prior to the restore, now it is showing as a BD-Rom, and doesn't read whatever is inside. So it'd make sense why I can't boot anything, but now I'm even more puzzled.

    Appreciate the help guys.

    Could you go into device manager click to remove/uninstall bd rom reboot and let windows reinstall the drive for you to see if it returns to normal

    I tried uninstalling it several times and it wouldn't work. So I did some reading and followed some steps to uninstall it.

    I removed the filters on the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    It appeared to have uninstalled properly. I rebooted, and it froze loading windows. I rebooted once more, and it loaded fine but the BD-ROM is back. I tried to search to figure out why it's reading it as a BD-ROM but no luck. I've tried a different DVD-ROM and a DVD/RW too, and it still shows up as BD-ROM and it doesn't work.
