I have been testing one T230H in a production environment with the intention of purchasing many more touchscreen monitors. Last night I posed these exact questions to Acer Tech Support through their website email:
"I am a T230H owner and am participating in a few forum discussions about using Dual T230H Monitors with Windows 7. I will happily pass along your responses to others seeking the same information.
Assuming the graphics card set-up can support two monitors and both are connected to USB ports, will the touchscreen functions work from BOTH T230H monitors?
...in same desktop on both monitors (either or both monitor's multi-touch can control the one desktop)?
....in different desktops on each monitor (will each monitor's multi-touch control the correct desktop)?"
After what appeared to be silly automated responses, I was told to call their sales support number (800-571-2237) and they marked my email ticket as solved (meaning no further input possible from me). A rep at that phone number started asking me all sorts of questions about my notebook before I interrupted and reminded her that I'm calling about dual T230H MONITOR's on one DESKTOP computer. After some more frustrating misinformation, I finally got her to seek other input for this issue and she returned from her "service desk" with this information:
You need a driver from tech support for this. You can Google it or open a PAID support ticket to obtain it.
WAIT....did this rep at tech support & sales really just suggest that in order to know whether I should consider buying even more of their monitors for situations that would DOUBLE the number of monitors I buy, that I go BACK to Google or I need to PAY for tech support?!?!?
When I started inquiring about the name of the driver or the link to it, I was rudely disconnected...leaving me with a somewhat similar feeling as my abruptly-closed email support ticket.
So...if the rep and her advisers are to be believed, there is a driver for dual T230H Monitors on one computer.....somewhere. Yet, after a few hours of searching, I sure can't find it.
In MY particular case, I often need dual monitors displaying the SAME desktop on two displays in two locations (ie: collaboration or control in recording studios, design studios, conference rooms, etc.). Since I regularly have multiple USB keyboards and mice connected to one system without a problem (both wired and wireless)...and my current T230H pointing device happily coexists with other pointing devices attached to the computer...there seems a reasonable chance that the USB pointing devices of the dual T230H monitors would work similarly. Though this still hasn't been verified, it seems that the bigger mystery is dual monitors with different or extended desktops (as has been pointed out on various forums).
Sadly, no local retailers have stock on this item and I'm not terribly motivated to order another T230H from Acer after the uncaring treatment by their tech support and some annoying, unresolved problems I'm having with my current one.
I'll keep pestering Acer tech support for more info. But, if anyone in the Phoenix, AZ, USA area has another T230H and wants to test various dual configs out...I'm happy to explore this even more.
