Windows 7 Not Recognizing External Hard Drive

I just got a Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB internal hard drive.
Model Number: ST315005N1A1AS-RK. And I put it into a Rosewill external enclosure. I live at college so my father formatted it for me before sending it to me at college using Windows XP x86. My father moved some files onto it before sending it to me, so I know that it is working. I do not have access to another computer. Now that I have the hard drive, I cannot get Windows 7 Home Premium x64 to see the hard drive. I have unplugged the hard drive and restarted the computer many times. It uses external power and is plugged in. I am currently using USB to connect to my computer. I have a Studio XPS 1340. I know that you must make it active in Disk Management, but there is nothing in disk management except my primary hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need any more information just let me know and I'll gladly provide what I can.

Brand new build system with no previous OS.

Used a SATA WD 640G HDD. Windows 7 installer would not recognize it. So, I did the same thing as your father and partitioned it with XP home into NTFS.

Still Win 7 Installer wouldn't find it but it did give me an option to instal drivers that WOULD find it. So I used a USB drive and from within the Win7 installer used ever driver Western Digital offered even my MOB's drivers. Gigabyte p55a-ud4p.

Still didn't see it.

Solution: Installed an old IDE drive and magically Win 7 saw it. I installed from there.

I'm in the process of using Western Digital Acronis to transfer everything from the IDE drive to my 640G WD SATA drive.

That was what I had to do.

I had a simillar problem a year ago and was told that some enclosures are limited to a maximum size of a hard drive.

Try that and post back - firstly can you check in your bios to see if the drive is recognised - if it is it wouldnt of been damaged in transit.

Okay so I solved the problem. I thought that the hard drive may had been damaged like Orpheous said, so I took the drive out of the enclosure and it was barely connected to the enclosure. So I took the screw out and reseated it, and now it's working. I really didn't expect it to be such an easy fix. Thanks for your help!
