Since I'm going to a monitor that doesn't have speakers, I guess that DVI should be sufficient, with the sound routed to my 5.1 speakers as normal?

Connection as in native connection and not via adaptor - right?

I assume that by adaptor, you would mean adapting VGA to DVI...correct? In my case, that is not necessary.

Yes, but does your have an HDCP compliant DVI input?

By input, I assume that you are referring to the monitor. It has DVI input, and it is HDCP compliant, so I can only assume that the DVI is HDCP compliant. It also has HDMI, but I could not make that work.

Fine, but HDMI did not work?

No. When I spoke to Acer support, they told me that if the video card had DVI only, then I had to use a DVI to DVI cable, which I did. When I tried it using a DVI to HDMI cable, all that I got was a black screen.

Ahh, so try DVI + sound card. This should be fine. What software will you play back the film? I've used PowerDVD in the past, so the Ultra version with Blu-Ray support should be sufficient, but you may also consider WinDVD's alternate version. Check to make sure the film is running @ 1080p and maybe at 24FPS too.

That is what I have... PowerDVD 8 Ultra.

You should upgrade to 9 - your CPU is also a bit weak but Blu-Ray should work. I'd also upgrade to 4GB RAM at a minimum.

It will either work with the CPU that I have, or I won't get it. My primary rig already has 4GB of RAM, but I will need to add a couple of sticks on my secondary rig...then again, maybe not. It's CPU is weaker than my primary rig.

Why upgrade to 9? What does it do that 8 won't?
