Windows 7: help with drive ownership and file access

i'm new to forums and this is my first post, so here's the deal. my raptor x crashed last week and won't read anymore, so i decided to do a fresh install on my seagate 160gb. after install i tried to access my other seagate 2tb and i couldn't without taking ownership. i took ownership and i can access all my dvd backup files but i can't play my video_ts files. vlc prompts me with access errors and won't play. when i go in to safe mode and i can play my video_ts files. i've also tried taking ownership of my drive in safe mode and still the same results. any suggestion would be very much appreciated.
