    Printer problems

    Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 x64. I've successfully used by HP LaserJet 1020 for the last several months. A few days ago, it stopped working. When I attempted to print to it, I would get an error saying that no printers were installed, and would I like to install a new printer. If I selected "yes," I would get an error saying that I cannot add a new printer because something is wrong with the print spooler. I went to services.msc and saw that the print spooler service was stopped, yet the option "Automatic" was selected. I tried starting the print spooler manually, but it would stop around 10 seconds later.

I then tried removing the printers, but got an access denied error. I followed the steps provided in this post: Print Spooler Keeps Crashing in Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

After restarting my computer, the print spooler began running on its own. I then successfully reinstalled the drivers for the printer.

The printer is now installed property and the print spooler is running. When I try to print something, it appears to be working smoothly, but nothing prints. Additionally, it doesn't appear as though anything is being sent to the queue.

    Any ideas?

Sometimes the answer is so unique that it cannot be found except by luck. I have an HP printer. I could not get the printer to work right with the "right" driver. I downloaded an XP driver ( I have Win 7) installed in compatibilty mode and guess what, my printer works. Try XP try Vista. You will get it to work. After, everything is installed, boot the computer. If you want to know how to install in compatibility mode, just post.

Be sure to turn the printer off, until told to do so on screen. Hope it works out.

Edit: Make sure the old driver is completly removed, before trying.
