    AM3+AM2 Motherboard? PC-AM3RS790G - PURE CrossFireX 790GX

Hi, im waiting for a decent motherboard that supports DDR2/DDR3 to be released, so I can use my current Phenom II 940/DDR2 1066 setup on it until I upgrade to an Phenom II AM3/DDR3 Memory to use on same board. As it makes sense to me for future proofing, the only boards I have seen that do this so far are the..

    Jetway MA3-79GDG
    MSI 790GX-8D

I don't fancy either of those and really want the PC-AM3RS790G - PURE CrossFireX 790GX

I have heard rumours that this board can support ddr2 and ddr3, can anybody here confirm whether this board will run both DDR2 with AM2+ Cpu and DDR3 with AM3 cpu?

    Thanks,

    Hello Boomstick,

Sorry, but a motherboard will only support either DDR2 or DDR3, not both.

ok mate thanks for the reply, really want that motherboard but don't want to buy an AM3 Cpu just yet. Was hoping it would have an am2 memory controller on board as well cos I read somewhere it supports AM2+.

I hate getting the bug to upgrade grrrr

I decided to keep my current setup and upgrade the motherboard later probably when the 8 series is out and i'll go straight to AM3 with DDR3 on a decent 8 series. Im going to buy the phenom II 955 becausce it will work on my current setup plus in AM3 later on. Glad amd is back in the game yep im an amd fanboy lol
