touchpad too sensitive, cursor jumping

I have a new HP laptop (dv6-1375dx) with pre-installed W 7 whose touchpad is listed as a "Synaptics Touchpad V6.5 on PS/2 Port".

The cursor has a mind of its own and frequently jumps all over the screen when I type without (I think) my touching anything. Is there a way to reduce this annoying jumping of the cursor? I've looked at the Synaptics device properties but am not sure what I need to change.

Thank you for replying. The model number is correct, but I too discovered it was not listed when I looked for HP support. When I contacted support about something else they assured me that it was the same as the es model. They said, the dx is just to distinguish the market zone. not the model. They constantly referred to it as a dv6-1375 with no suffix. I bought it at Best Buy and I am guessing it is probably their "private" number so that I cannot compare prices with somewhere else.

Thanks for the reference. It is the same controls as I have and I tried to play with the sensitivity settings without much effect. I will work with it some more. I've had several laptops before this one (not HP) and am familiar with using them. Sometimes the cursors do jump on them but this one seems to do it really excessively.

I also bought a laptop from BestBuy last week and hated the trackpad too. So I went back and got the Logitech Trackman mouse which operates with a trackball. That is so much more comfortable than the trackpad.
On my desktop I use a keyboard with a trackball ( the trackball is top right on the keyboard - a little hard to see on the pics). That is the ultimate.

Doesn't having an external mouse sort of defeat the idea of having a laptop though because you need to be sitting at a table to use it instead of using the laptop anywhere?
In the meanwhile I've reduced the touchpad sensitivity somewhat and it jumps less. I'll see how it goes. Thanks.

Depends how you use the laptop - if literally in your lap, then you are right. But I use it mainly for teaching at the computer club and for the setups at home.

Thanks WalkweA. These are the drivers I used (the 64 bit one). Still having the problem though it has lessened somewhat since I reduced the sensitivity.
