Win 7 64bit Crashes with more than 2GB Ram

    Hello Everyone-

Just finished building a new win7 64bit machine and I have multiple different RAM modules. And it seems that any time I install more than 2GB of RAM win7 64bit runs like crap.

For example on startup the desktop wallpaper will not display until I click the Windows Icon in the start menu. And I can work on it for a couple mins but then all the applications will freeze up. For example the mouse will move but I can't access anything in windows or any of the open applications, Firefox, word, ie etc..

I have tried installing 2 x2GB sticks, 4 x 1GB sticks, 3 x 1GB sticks, 1 x 2GB stick + 1 x 1GB stick. I have also ran the memtest86 on most of the combos and they pass with no errors. But I can almost do any combo I want as long as its not over 2GB and win7 seems to run fine.

I read on here some where that this was an issue with older BIOS. I am running a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H and I check on Gigabyte's website and I am running the most up to date BIOS.

Can some one point me in the right direction?

So I stumbled across the problem. I was working on my machine with the standard 2GB of RAM installed and everything was working fine until one of my video cards had an error.

I should have known from the get go as this was a little bit of an older card a Nivida 6200. As soon as I removed this thing I popped in my 8 GB of RAM and Win 7 is running great.

I am actually typing this with the RAM installed. So it was a stupid old video card the whole time!
