Batteries

I heard a lot of people talking about how batteries of a laptop will degenerate over time.

How much degeneration should I expect over a year?

Should I take out the battery from the laptop and store it when I don't need it?

Also, is there overcharging when you leave a battery in the laptop forever? like the battery continuously gains charge. Can you make it so that the battery stops charging after it reaches 100%?

I think this article will answer your astute question and a lot more. From these articles it is good to remove the battery.

I will try to answer any question that is posted, but I like your question in particular. It asks what can I do to prevent a problem, rather than the usual, "Ihave a problem".

Continue good preventive maintenance, return here with any questions and you will get many years of trouble free service for your computer and the great OS that you have chosen.

Laptop batteries
I don't have a laptop but I know a few people who would never buy a desktop. Their reasons are usually that they like to tidy up after using their computer, they don't have space to spare and the portability of a laptop suits them fine. I always remind them to make use of the battery to maximise...

Is it bad to keep a computer plugged in? Keeping it maxed out @ 100% I heard was bad.... Does it really matter? I go through the process of draining and charging, and I had my computer for 7 months.... In fact I am draining it now... So is it true? Does it really hurt the battery? :) Thanks

Notebooks and their batteries
I have a 2 year-old laptop and a 6 month-old netbook. I recently read that if my mobile notebooks are always plugged in to a power source,(and mine are 99% of the time) the battery should not be in the equipment. It read they should be removed and stored away. Is this true? If so, my...
