New Acer Monitor problem Just bought a new Acer P244W 24" LCD monitor. Twice now, I turn the monitor off via the button on the front at night. In the morning, pressing the power button does nothing. Monitor does not power up. I must unplug it for a couple of minutes, then it will power up. When it finally powers up, my Windows "gadgets" are in the middle of the display like they were when I first installed the monitor. I have to manually move them over to the right side.
Monitor new purchased on 2/27/2010.
Is this a defect??? Do I need to exchange the monitor?? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built it myself OS Windows 7 Home Premium X64 CPU Intel Q6600 Quad-core Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G Memory 4 GB DDR2 Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Acer P244W Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080 Keyboard Microsoft Mouse Logitech wireless PSU Enermax 650W Case Antec Cooling Coolermaster Hard Drives Western Digital 500 GB Internet Speed 6 MB |

So you turn the monitor off after you power down the PC completely, or is the PC in sleep or hibernate or something? If your sure your doing everything OK you should go the acer site and look for waranty info, and then send them a discription of the problem, and they will tell you if its defective, and if so they will fix it or replace it. Its not uncommon to have a defective new monitor - I have a view sonic I recently had fixed under waranty for no cost, and that included both way transport - so no dollars at all. | My System Specs | | OS XP, Vista, W7 64bit Home Premium CPU Intel Core Duo 6850 3.0 ghz @ 3.7 ghz Motherboard Asus P5E Memory 4GB Corsair DDR 2 PC-6400 Graphics Card Ati 4870 1ghz Sound Card Supreme FX 11 Monitor(s) Displays View Sonic VX1962wm Screen Resolution 1680 X1050 Keyboard Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard Mouse Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical PSU Thermaltake 600 watt Case NZXT Alpha Cooling 3X120cm Fans Hard Drives 3 Seagate Sata Drives 160gb 250gb 500gb Internet Speed 1.5Mb to 8Mb/384k |

Sorry for using the old thread. Thanks for the welcome and I have updated my system info.
The problem fits this old thread exactly, though.
I leave my computer on, it does not hibernate or sleep. I turn off the monitors using their switch. In the morning, the Acer monitor will not turn on at all. It is the second monitor. The only way to get it to function is to unplug both the power and the dvi cable, then put the power plug back in, turn the monitor on, then plug in the DVI. No amount of holding the button down, or just unplugging the cable or power alone will allow the monitor to turn on. I don't think it is a defective monitor - more a driver/display card/monitor interaction issue of some sort. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home assembled OS Windows Enterprise 7 32-bit CPU E6300 Pentium Dual-Core 2.80Ghz Motherboard MSI MS-7259 Memory 4GB DDR2 Graphics Card Visiontek Radeon HD 5500 Sound Card USB Multi-Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays iH282 and Acer P244W Screen Resolution 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 Hard Drives 75GB WDC WD800HLFS-75G6U0 ATA

No harm in contacting Acer - tocapet's monitor can have the exact same problem, which can be fixed( if approved). You have 2 monitors and tocapet has only one in use, and you both have different video cards - that rules out video card drivers and the other monitor which isolates it to being the Acer monitor - hence, there is no other avenue left but to contact Acer, or go to the Acer site (support), and see if there is a later driver than the one your using. | My System Specs | | OS XP, Vista, W7 64bit Home Premium CPU Intel Core Duo 6850 3.0 ghz @ 3.7 ghz Motherboard Asus P5E Memory 4GB Corsair DDR 2 PC-6400 Graphics Card Ati 4870 1ghz Sound Card Supreme FX 11 Monitor(s) Displays View Sonic VX1962wm Screen Resolution 1680 X1050 Keyboard Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard Mouse Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical PSU Thermaltake 600 watt Case NZXT Alpha Cooling 3X120cm Fans Hard Drives 3 Seagate Sata Drives 160gb 250gb 500gb Internet Speed 1.5Mb to 8Mb/384k |

So I understand it, you leave you PC on 24/7 and at night just turn off the monitor via the power buttons? IMO, that's not a good idea. At night when you go to bed just power down PC, by going to start orb and click the shut down tab, wait till it fully turns off and then turn off all external added devices..ie, printers, external HDD's, including monitors. If the monitor(s) are still acting the same then contact the vendor for support or a replacement like "whest" said. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Motherboard Asus M4N78 Pro Memory GSkill 4 X 2 GB PC 8500 Graphics Card PowerColor Radeon HD 4870 512mb GDDR5 Sound Card On board VIA High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dual monitors: HP W1907 LCD 19" and Gateway HD Display 19" L Screen Resolution 1440x900 Keyboard Logitech G510 Mouse Razor DeathAdder PSU Antech Earthwatts EA-500D (500watts) 80 plus Case Ultra E-Torque mid tower ATX Cooling Core-Contact 92 mm CPU Cooler Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB (primary)

Good advice, thanks. I've left my computers on because I use them as servers, and often access them from the road. I haven't tested 'wake on demand' from sleep state to trust it, but that would be a possibility. Of course, when I'm away, I don't care that the monitor is off. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home assembled OS Windows Enterprise 7 32-bit CPU E6300 Pentium Dual-Core 2.80Ghz Motherboard MSI MS-7259 Memory 4GB DDR2 Graphics Card Visiontek Radeon HD 5500 Sound Card USB Multi-Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays iH282 and Acer P244W Screen Resolution 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 Hard Drives 75GB WDC WD800HLFS-75G6U0 ATA
