Windows 7 - Scanner that I cannot get installed in Windows 7

Scanner that I cannot get installed in Windows 7

A reminder: Started with XP, added Windows 7 on new HDD.

Mostly things are working out, but I have one remaining hardware problem: a scanner that I can not get installed in Windows 7. I've seen some reference to running that scanner on XP inside of Windows 7. Is that what I need to do?

Is there a specific tutorial you recommend for that? (or for what else I should do if it isn't running XP inside of Windows 7.)

There are other glitches with Windows 7: lockups, poor audio playback with Foobar, and Norton Internet Security has made me uninstall and reinstall twice already. I did the "repair" from the Win 7 64 installation disc just a few minutes ago, and it found and repaired something so maybe some of these things are fixed. I don't think they pertain to dual booting, so I'll look in Windows 7 tutorials/threads if they persist.

But first things first: hardware that can not be installed in Windows 7 64 (or 32) but can with XP32

Hello KJ,

What is the brand and model number of your scanner?

Are there Windows 7 drivers available for the scanner? Sometimes Vista drivers will work in Windows 7 as well.

Fujitsu ScanSnap fi-4110EOX2

Pretty sure there are no Vista 64 or Win 7 64 drivers.

I found this that says it adds Vista support. It may be worth a try.

Thanks. Can't hurt to try, but I don't think it'll work BC the 5110 has Twain and my 4110 doesn't. Ill post.

OK, that driver did not work.

Since this last post I have installed Virtual XP in my Windows 7 32 setup since the scanner works fine in XP. At least I have it's icon showing but there is a circle with red line indicating it won't work. This has happened before in XP, but simply turning the scanner off, then back on, fixed it. Not working here.

Any additional info? or suggestions?

You might contact the scanner manufacturer's website above to see if they would or have plans on creating a Windows 7 driver for their product. If not, then you may need to get a newer scanner that does support working in Windows 7.

If you can't get it to work you may have to do what I did and buy a new scanner. They are so inexpensive to buy now-a-days. I bought my XP scanner for $450 back in the day I bought my replacement for $75 and I think it is 10 times better and 100 times faster. I don't know why I waited for months messing with so many drivers to make an old scanner work. I am much happier now and this scanner works great. - Just my two cents.

Ha! I was dreading the thought of getting a new scanner, and for the same reason: the one I have cost something in the $300-$400 range (and that was the lowest model in the Fujitsu lineup.)

Surprised and happy to hear that the cost of a replacment will be much less. Hopefully that will apply to the type of scanner I need: multisheet and scan to .pdf.

As far as getting Fujitsu to make a Windows 7 driver goes, they seem to be difficult to deal with and have not even made a Vista driver for this discontinued model. I think they too are trying to encourage people to buy new.

Yeah with it being a discontinued model, it looks like it may be time for a new one.
