Windows 7 - How to re-enable SMART warnings in OS

Hi everyone,

When I was presented with a SMART warning from Windows 7 about a hard drive that was going bad, I accidentally chose the option to ignore future SMART errors and not tell me about it...

Since then I have replaced the bad drive, and all is well.

However I need now to tell Windows 7 to alert me if there are any new SMART errors that occur. I am concerned because I feel that, because of my previous selection, Windows 7 will ignore any future SMART error which of course I want to be sure to know about!

Can someone please tell me how to reset this option within the OS so it will alert me again about future SMART errors? I did some extensive searching here and all over and could not find this information (although I did find someone else ask the same question a year ago, to which there were no responses).

When you dismissed all warnings, you were dismissing all warnings for that drive.

Any other SMART errors that may occur on your other drives will still trigger a warning.

Just for future reference, do you know what steps could be taken to re-enable SMART warnings? I imagine the settings are somewhere in the registry and can be undone. The question that remains is, how? Thanks again!

I too disabled the SMART in Windows 7, is there any way it can be enabled? It is already enabled in BIOS.

If you did it recently, I suspect a System Restore will help. I'm sorry, I don't know how to undo the change directly.
