I think people were responding to the ad indicating the need for it, not taking the poster seriously :)

It is sad, but it's probably getting harder and harder to sell new hardware. The /need/ for speed is dwindling as the hardware is outpacing most peoples requirements by miles now. Real power users of course never have enough but we've gone WAY beyond the power necessary to read email, edit a picture and run your AV at once

And if you advertise that your new machine is perfect for editing 4 streams of video or poster sized imaged in photoshop, most people will KNOW that's way too much machine for their meger needs and pass on it.

My netbook with an Atom processor does all those things at the same time. I didn't even know it was a quad core!

That ad is very misleading because to do all that, in addition to a quad core...we all know that you also need
    1). very large case
2). extra cooling fans (at least 5)
    3). 8-12GB of RAM
4). Minimum of an 850W Power Supply

    and

5). SSD drive if you want to do it quickly or an SSD RAID array if you want to do it fast.

I see the humor in the OP. However, the ad is possibly true if you consider all the crapware a new Dell PC comes preloaded with. The PC is so overloaded with bloat and crap at first a quad system may not even be enough to make it run properly.
