the ad is not saying what it looks like it says...

    bad setting.

[sentence 1] Choose your processor from AMD

[sentence 2] Athlon X2 Dual Core to a Phenom II X4 Quad Core

[sentence 3] So you can check an email... etc, etc, etc.

yeah, it looks like dell is pushing a quad core to do that, but the ad is just too cramped

However, the ad is possibly true if you consider all the crapware a new Dell PC comes preloaded with. The PC is so overloaded with bloat and crap at first a quad system may not even be enough to make it run properly.
Dell is no worse than any other manufacturer out there. In my opinion, they put on far less garbage than HP.

IMHO Dell still offers very good value for money. Lets remember it is a very small percentage of the public who have any interest in building their own computer and even fewer who are capable of making a good job of it.

Surely a Core 2 Duo could do all that and more
Actually a single Celeron ATOM processor would be many times MORE than sufficient too.

Unless you are doing a LOT of intensive Video editing / creation or a HUGE amount of "photoshopping" with LARGE professional digital camera RAW files then 99% of you probably don't need any more than a FRACTION of the CPU power in your machines than you already have now. - Even with games a lot of the processing can be off-loaded to the GPU now in any case.

What most people could usefully use is a) MORE AND FASTER DISKS, and b) MORE RAM -- both these would pay far more dividends to the average user than a QUAD CPU.

    Cheers

That ad is very misleading because to do all that, in addition to a quad core...we all know that you also need
    1). very large case
2). extra cooling fans (at least 5)
    3). 8-12GB of RAM
4). Minimum of an 850W Power Supply

    and

5). SSD drive if you want to do it quickly or an SSD RAID array if you want to do it fast.
    LOL LOL

Dell wins with their customer support. At least with my experience. :)
