Windows 7: Removed Floppy - Win 7 still reporting it's there

Removed Floppy - Win 7 still reporting it's there

  • Why I did it - I have installed a Rosewill USB 2.0 card reader in the chassis single external 3.5 slot.
  • How I did it - turned off the box, disconnected the floppy drive and removed it. That's it. I did not access Device Manager and uninstall it there prior to physical removal.
  • Problem - Windows still shows the floppy drive as being installed, even asks me to format the disk after I reboot,
  • What I have done so far - I've removed the floppy drive from Device Manager and rebooted; no go.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome. As always, thanks in advance.

I considered poking around in the BIOS, but then I thought that the floppy would act like other devices. Now I will look into that immediately.

And that fixed it right up. Learned something new. Thanks, brady.

Phantom Floppy
I don't have a floppy drive connected to the ASUS P5Q motherboard, yet, both Win7 and my old XP insist on listing it in both Windows Explorer, and device manager. Disabling and/or removing it only results in New Hardware found on the next boot. Any ideas?
