Wont recognize external harddrives

Im running Windows 7 Premium.

I have two identical WD external usb HDDs. If I plug both of them in, the pc will only recognize the first one plugged in via usb. If I unplug both, and plug the second HDD in, it recognizes it just fine. Whichever one it recognizes, it calls Drive G I think.

How to I get Windows to recognize both at the same time???

I tried hooking both up, going to the control panel and looking for new hardware, and it still only found one external HDD.

These HDDs are powered externally, not through usb. And they both work and are recognized by my XP machiene.
