Using both Monitors

Hi everyone,
Here's the deal:
I use my TV as an external monitor for my ThinkPad T60. I plug it in via VGA. Since installing windows 7 I have been unable to use the actual laptop monitor and my external monitor simultaneously. When I start my laptop with the external monitor plugged in it's the only one that works. When I start it unplugged the original display works. When I go to the display settings area in the control panel only one monitor appears and nothing happens when I click on detect.
What can I do to resolve this issue?
Thanks,
James

Welcome!

Try updating your video card drivers. Go the the manufacturer's site, and install the latest ones.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a rookie. How do I figure out what video card I have?

You can use the link for Speccy in my sig.

Alternatively, you can type devmgmt.msc into the start menu and press enter. Your video card will be listed under "Video adapters". If you want, while you're there, you can right-click on the card and select Update Driver Software.
