IDE drive not being recognized in Win7.

I know IDE drives are old, but this one has never failed me thus far, It as all my backups to my programs on it plus personal data/media.
I have tried going into Control PNL/Admin Tools/Comp Management/Disk Management, to select manually give drive location (Volume:) and normally it's there. I am a little flustered on this, it is usually there after I do a OS install (every 6 mon.) This time it was not. I recently took my pc apart to upgrade my CPU cooler from an Ultra TEC to the Corsair H50. Wipped my primary OS hard drive, deleted partition/select NEW/Format and did a fresh install. As I do every six months. I will take my pc apart again if needed, unless someone (one of your more experienced users) can help me with this issue. Any and all help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

No still not in Disk Management. And actually no it's not shown in the BIOS, ideas? I do have an IDE DVD-RW drive installed on the same cable.

If it's the hard drive you want to get working first - remove the CDRW off the lead.

2. There are TWO types of IDE lead. ATA 100 and ATA 133 (ATA133 one has loads of Xtra wires)
If you have modern ATA hard drive it won't work on the older type of ata lead!

3. Hard drive may require a pin connecter on the back, to set drive as master or slave.
You will have to look up your hard drive manufacturer webpage/manual to find out which pins to short for master or slave configuration.

Another idea.
The hard drive heads sitting on the platters can stick and stop it from firing up.

Only hard drives i know are the modern Western digital sata Caviar black 750gb/1tb(and up) which park the heads right off the platters - their ata drives might do it too!
You will have to look this up as I have forgotten what they call this feature. Great for more realiability on drives which sit around for ages!

Another classic for prevention of hard drive (not) starting is putting the lead in the drive or M/board socket - THE WRONG WAY ROUND.
Double check red stripe on ata lead goes to PIN1 on drive & motherboard

Thanks for the info, I fiddled with it for another 2 hours before I could not kee my eyes open and just crashed. This drive (Seagate Barracuda 250g Date Code:07247) I have been using with this same system now for 3+ years. And never had a problem. I did what what was suggested above and had no success. I tried in so many scenerios (at least 30 different setups). I am now at the point were I am going to take the pc back apart and just go with the basics and go from there. I need it to work, crucial data. I have changed this rig so many times with add-ons, upgrades, and never had a problem, this isn't my first time. I do appreciate all the help, but my pc is going to be off for a little while. i have to figure this out. Probally just the wire, that is what I am getting to. In every way I have had this( during troubleshooting) it never post in the BIOS. That's never happened before, wish me luck, see you when I fix it.

Okay took it apart, and opened the sleeve on the IDE connecter, and found that it is broken on both sides of the middle connecter. Just from being bent and manipulated all those years and mods. So the cable is the problem, good thing I was getting worried. Thanks for all you help again guys/gals, I really do appreciate it, plus I learned a couple new things. All in all this case is closed. Thanks
