Motherboard crash data retieval

My motherboard crashed but my hard drive is good. It was running Vista 64 bit. I replaced the motherboard and installed a new hard drive with windows 7.
Both hard drives are western digital 500 gig. My problem is I can not find the My Documents folder on the old drive. I can see most of the old programs from the new install. Is there a way to retrieve my files? Thanks

Have you tried the Windows Easy File Transfer? If not, just type "Easy Transfer" without the quotes in the search box. That should fix you right up.

Your document folder would be in the "C:\users\user name\" sub folders. If 7 had been installed on the same drive to replaced the previous Vista installation all that would be packed up in the Windows.old folder.

You should be able to browse through each but may need to take ownership with some in order to retrieve files. If Vista was still loadable you could use the files and settings transfer wizard to back things up or a data recovery program.

The last option of course would be to toss a quick install of Vista on the same drive in order to see the Windows.old folder created while being the time consuming method to save files. You shouldn't have to go that far while the option for a dual boot of both versions is available.
