    Worth upgrading? AM3 DDR3

I currently have an phenom II 940, AM2 Motheboard limited to ht 1.0. 4GB DDR2 1066. Things is im an upgrade addict .

Would it be worth (in terms of performance/ power savings) to upgrade to a Phenom II 955 with AM3 Motherboard 790gx and DDR3 1333. Would there be any difference in performance?

Yes, my girl friend calls me the upgrader because I also like to keep up to date with software. It's good to be modern.

    Um...
    With AMD Phenom II? No.
    With Intel Core i7? Yes.

As for why, the Phenom II, although being compatible with DDR3, doesn't have a real performance difference DDR3 and DDR2 (I saw a benchmark about it, on a French technology Website - LePoilu knows which one ).

As for Core i7, there is A BIG difference between DDR2 and DDR3 mainly because it is made to work with it which the Phenom II isn't really.

You wouldn't really notice the slight performance increase. :)

It depends on what you use your computer for . :)

Chances are you are wasting your money. If you have heaps to spare, why not.

If you're running a server, get Core i7. Intel's Nehalem arcitechure is based off of server arcitechures. If you're into gaming, go with AMD Phenom II. Besides, DDR3 is the next generation of RAM, and if you're the upgrade addict you claimed to be, then you should totally go for it.
