x2 4200 vs. x2 5200 BE

    I've been monitoring the Vcore for a while , and it seems to fluctuate between more or less only those two variants I've mentioned in this page. One of my friend has an Asus mobo and 5000+ proc. He also says that he notices these fluctuations, for over two years and nothing has gone wrong, yet. So I shouldn't worry as much, should I?

    I suppose not then.

    It isn't unusual for a little variation, now and then. Just make sure it doesn't start to get worse.

    And if your voltage is still around 1.4V+, and you aren't overclocking, it might be an idea to see if you can bring it down a little to maybe 1.3 or 1.35, which is in spec for your chip. It will run cooler and last longer that way. Just make sure you test for stability when you do.

    Will do. The fluctuations so far are 1.472/1.488/1.50/520 V. I'll keep an eye out.
    The BIOS crashed once, not being able to take the 5200+, but it flashed ok and now boots fast, no lags on Win 7 that I had noticed, or in games. Also do you thing taking out one of my HDD would help satibilise the Vcore voltage?

    I'd try turning off a non essential drive and see if it helps. It may not.

    I just added a couple of new fans to my case yesterday, and now my PSU seems underpowered.

    No changes in Vcore, but the 12 and 5V rails are swinging a bit. I'm taking a drive offline to see if it helps. Looks like some cheap fans draw more power than I thought. Looks like the data sheet is fibbing. :)

    I missed it!


    Guys, guys...I don't know how did I misread it but it seems that the BIOS hardware monitor is reporting VCore fluctuation as (sic) "392/408/424" (without the slashes of course ), not as CPUZ is reporting !

    I hope the reading doesn't change after boot, it doesn't happen like that does it?!

    The BIOS can fluctuate. At least with the wife's old board. CPU-Z would fluctuate too, and that was after boot up. Judging by those numbers, and if I'm reading you right, you're getting a swing of about 32 mV. In contrast, the Vcore on my motherboard never moves from the value shown here:

    32 mV is larger than the voltage step I had to give my CPU in order to o/c it, and it's about what my wife was seeing with her old board. That's why I replaced it, and I was going to replace the PSU, too. But using the same chip and PSU, her Vcore is rock solid now. It was the board all along.

    I won't be able to change my mobo these two months, because of budget rise here in India, and I'm in no position immediately to go on a mobo spree !
    I hope if these fluctuations stay like they are they won't do any major harm? Or will they?
