If I read the first post right, pcgamer was maxing at 64c playing Crysis, not just any game.
It's one of the most demanding games out there.
Considering he has the 965 black edition, and considering he is using the stock cooler, I am convinced the cooler is not wrongly seated.
I promise you, if you have a cooler wrongly seated on the 965, you are talking temps in the region of 100c to 120c, but long before that happens the pc will bsod, reboot or freeze.
By the way, the cooler I recommend is: Arctic-Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2
Just make sure it fits in your case.
Your CPU has (almost) exact same specs as pcgamers (be it a AM2+ version),
and the difference between his temps and yours is the cooler, and maybe other airflow circumstances.
Maybe I sound like a stubborn s.o.b., but in my experience, a wrongly seated cooler gives way higher temps than 64c at full load.
It must be his stock cooler in conjunction with poor airflow in and out of the case.
I am not claiming that 64c is perfect, I just wanted to ease pcgamers mind a bit, telling him it is not as bad as he thought it was.
It should be dealt with, but there is no reason to panic.
A couple of pics of the inside of the case would help, one towards the front and one towards the back.
On a side note:
Ever notice the ridiculously thick layer of thermal paste on the stock coolers?
I always take it off, and apply one tiny drop of paste that I spread very finely with an old creditcard.
You should almost be able the see through the layer.
I have a very big case with plenty of room as it is very lat at night here i will post some pics of it in morning but the heatsink is seated properly i have built my own pc's in the past and 1 a few months before this 1 and that was am2 and it was fine with stock cooler. just this newam3 is really working hard and hot i was playing crysis on ultra high setting though using an ATI 5770 XXX OC edition if that would make it hotter. is there any suggestions on what heat sink i should get as i was looking at this 1 myself. Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev 2 Socket 775, 1156, 1366, AM2, AM3 Heatpipe CPU Cooler - Ebuyer
also is it safe with it hitting 64C sometimes till i can get hold of the new heatsink also any suggested 1 would be great im looking to spen about £15-£30
