Speaking from experience, when I moved from my Seagate 7200.12 1TB drive to my Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB...I saw no noticeable difference based on the dual processors on the Caviar Black. And testing the 2 devices shows a slight edge to my Seagate drive over my WD. I had put the Seagate drive into another machine at my house and went with the WD for the performance.
As far as this conversation goes....there really should not be any tangible performance difference running on the 6.0Gbps SATA port. A 3.0Gbps SATA port is more than adequate to handle the data throughput from these hard drives without maxing out. In fact, at max speed on a mechanical drive, it rarely exceeds 50% of the available bandwidth that 3.0Gbps can handle.
