Generic non pnp monitor - SOLVED

So I restarted my machine one day and lo and behold Windows/Nvidia is no longer recognising my LG Flatron 17" LCD. Instead it is being detected as a "generic non pnp monitor" which prevented me from setting correct native resolutions.

The issue revolved around the EDID in my monitor somehow gone corrupted. So we need to trick windows/nvidia into recognising a new EDID

    Solution tutorial is here:
Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates

Essentially you need to recreate the .inf file and force a new driver install. Problem solved.

If you have the "Generic non-PnP monitor" problem, try connecting your monitor with a 1.5 meters VGA cable. I have that issue with longer cables, even with high quality ones.
