Windows 7 - No printer in device manager

I have a hp with vista 7
i am trying to install workforce 601 printer
printer does not show up in my device manager
it is shown in printers and devices under control panel
as ready....
How do i get printer back in device manager?

First of all, are you running Windows Vista, or Windows 7?

Hi there, welcome to the forums, could you please fill out your system specs under the user cp option at the top as it always helps,

firstly:
how is the printer connected?
does it actually print?
have you got the latest drivers?

Printers do not show up in Device Manager. Go to Devices and Printers in Start > Print server properties (on the top) > Drivers button. There you can manipulate the drivers.

WHS has it right... My printer doesn't show up in device manager either... and it works just fine. I even have it shared with the 8 computers that have access to our family LAN.

I have the same Problem ,running Windows 7 on a ASUS Esentio, printer is HP officejet6500n ,works fine faxes,prints,receives digital fax. Will not show up in devices folder I have tried installing it using HP software also letting windows install it and also adding it thru devices folder wich does add it in the folder but is not funtional.....HELP I need this to work inorder to print using a remote desktop software.
